Valentine’s Day Roses

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

This one is 'Julia Child'

I found some old rose photos that I hadn’t gone through before, mainly since they were not marked with names. So for Valentine’s Day I mustered up half a dozen digital rose pictures. There was a rose festival on this blog that started on September 30, 2007 and continued for several days in October if you would like to see some named roses.



Molly is home and doing as well as expected. I have my hands full with helping her so I won’t be saying much here over the next couple of days. There is a long road of recovery ahead and we are certainly not out of the woods yet. It has been worth it so far to have a few more days with a trusted and faithful friend. Thanks for the emails and comments of support, that really meant a lot to me.

This probably adds up to a couple of dozen roses. I think this is 'Eureka'

I must say this rose is a beautiful apricot blend with just a hint of green. It was blooming profusely at the NYBG. It had what I consider a light fruity type of fragrance, its real beauty was in the delicate shading of the inner petals.

Parentage: Sunset Celebration × St. Patrick

Petal Count: 30 to 35

I have actually grown a lot of these roses and have had good luck with all but ‘Hot Cocoa’, although it does have a beautiful flower color. I haven’t grown 'Scentimental’ or ‘Fourth of July’ because I am not crazy about striped roses. I have seen them performing well in gardens, though. ‘Strike It Rich’ is one of my new favorites. In the new Rose Garden it is one of the few roses that didn’t have a lot of disease and continues to produce a lot flowers even though a lot of the roses around it were completely devastated by black spot.
