I have decided to join the blogging craze. I am looking forward to taking a moment to find out a little more about the plants I have been photographing. I hope to explore all aspects of plants, flowers, trees and other garden related topics. Sorry about having to watermark the photos but there are a lot of people using them without permission.

Dwarf Red Tree Fern (Blechnum brasiliense)
Dwarf Red Tree Fern
Blechnum brasiliense
(BLEK-num) (bra-sill-ee-EN-see)
Synonyms: Red Brazilian Tree Fern
This is a beautiful fern that is native to Brazil and other parts of South America. I have seen it a few times before including the New York Orchid Show. I am not sure why they call it a Tree Fern because it doesn’t have that traditional stem that I so love about Tree Ferns. This photo is of the new growth rolling out. When it is completely unfurled it is a nice red color, it later hardens off to green. This fern is tropical and is hardy to USDA Zone 9. It was growing in the tropical plant section of the Bartlett Arboretum and was just spending the summer outside here in Connecticut. Some of the cultural tips I saw when I looked this plant up
It is again ‘ABC Wednesday’ over at Blog Catalog. This weeks theme is starts with ‘B’ and again I am using the scientific name, so ‘B’ is for Blechnum and brasiliense and Brazil.

WOW. Fabulous photo, and an interesting background to the plant too, thx.
Ah, it's the masterclass - and what a beauty. This is going to be a great learning experience. :)
Super idea to add links, thank you. Will edit my post.
That is absolutely gorgeous. I love it.
mamamia! love it! what caemra are you using by the way? thanks for the comment. I love that okra shot too. I remember I used to admire it's flowers when i was younger.
Thanks to all the people that left comments.
Lovely shot of a uniquely beautiful flower that you have. And thanks for including Tech Corner for my blog post. But please update at your convenience for the missing link for Hin's Photo Blog. You can see my 'B' post for the list:

And I explain the detail and importance of backlinking in the BlogCatlog Discussion
Thanks a bunch.

Oh wow... how you capture the delicate strength of such things as tree fern fronds (are they still fronds?) unveiling their beauty is beyond me. But you do it so well.
Hin
Thanks for stopping by and trying to organize the chaos.
Kim,
Your comments always mean a lot to me. You were an early supporter and for that, Thanks. I have been trying to get a good fiddlehead shot for awhile and just couldn't do on the native ferns. Got lucky on this one!
A really beautiful photo of the fern. The colors are so gorgeous.
Ki,
Thanks a lot. This was my third or fourth attempt to get this one. Persistence pays, I guess.
