Oxalis vulcanicola ‘Zinfandel’

This plant has done quite well this year. I was a little skeptical of it but Karen convinced me to buy some. It ended up that we got shipped two flats of 15 plants each, which was way more than I expected. It ended up getting planted in three different gardens under a variety of conditions. It has done well everywhere. Plants that kind of grow into their little niche are my favorites. Where it has been able to Zinfandel has spread well and has fought off the crummy weather conditions. I also found it well behaved in the border, filling in nicely but not trying to take too much space. It mixed it up well with Golden Creeping Jenny (Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea').
A fairly recent introduction from Proven Winners, Zinfandel grows 6 to 10 inches tall even though ours were about 4 inches tall. The black/purple foliage does well in sun and part shade. It won the Gardener’s Choice Award from the Smithsonian Institution in 2006.

Your Zinfandel looks like a nice contrast with the Creeping Jenny. I like the light and dark or purple and yellow groupings in the garden.
Our garden is covered in tall yellow Oxalis. The neighbours rip it out as a WEED, but we love the drifts and billows of yellow.
So lovely! I had never heard of the sorel!
