Red Daylily for Ruby Tuesday. These pictures were sitting around on a memory card I decided to clean off this weekend. Still have a couple of cards to go. This Daylily was growing at the NYBG and was literally blooming its head off. I have admired it for several years now and was glad a got a decent picture this year.


This other picture is from Long Beach Island. That card is just getting cleaned off too. The shovels just caught my eye in the Surf City 5 and 10.


Today the mums are getting delivered. They are bringing some bright yellow and some burgundy ones. Melissa was sweet enough to help Juno and I select a few of some other colors, also. There is also a 7-foot ‘Dragon Lady’ Holly on the truck. That is going to be prickly. The 60 mums have to go in today, as I am schedule to go to Hyde Park tomorrow.

This first shot is from Long Beach Island, New Jersey. I was on the beach playing with my 24mm lens and trying to get the most sky that was possible in the picture. Trying to keep the sand out of my camera.

These clouds were forming over my house yesterday in the early evening. I had to take Juno to the vet and when we got back I noticed this odd cloud. It wasn’t until later that I went out again and saw it was still there which meant it was time to grab the camera. We had a pretty good round of thunderstorms right after I snapped this picture. This is the best I could do to avoid all the obstructions like power lines. It isn’t easy to get a clear shot from the front or side yard. Again with the Sigma 24mm/1.8 lens.


Just to keep this site real to its name Digital Flower Pictures here is a Crepe Myrtle shot from LBI. They are so beautiful. It reminds me of a summer lilac, only on steroids! One interesting fact I learned about the Crepe Myrtle this year is that it has one of the longest flowering cycles of any flowering tree. It can bloom from 60 to 120 days, which is amazing compared to say a Dogwood. We planted a few of these this year and one has been blooming its little head of. The others are doing well but not flowering. They are not quite hardy in Connecticut except in warm pockets and along the shore.

Another Ruby Tuesday entry. All of the tall Sedums make a wonderful addition to the fall garden. This one is nice since it has purple foliage that is different from most of the others. The flower color is also different. The red and creamy white combination is always a good one to me and is often a default color scheme (with bright white added in) for my work gardens.

We spent the weekend in Surf City, New Jersey on Long Beach Island . It was lovely and I got a few good pictures. The gardens at all the different houses were really very well done. Most were small but they had their own charm and good points and when a garden has those it is usually successful. It was interesting to me because although the plant choices seem to be a little limited the people do a lot with them. This container garden was across the street. I liked the look of having all the pots down the walk like that. It was a nice look compared to just having all the annuals planted together and forming a carpet. There were Marigolds, Geraniums, New Guinea Impatiens and Begonias planted in all the pots.
