Queen Victoria Century Plant (Agave victoriae-reginae 'Compacta')

Queen Victoria Century Plant
Agave victoriae-reginae 'Compacta'
(a-GAH-vee) (vik-TOR-ee-ay ree-JIN-ay-ee)
Agavaceae (ah-gav-AY-see-ay)

What an emotional draining day yesterday was. I still feel bad about the whole thing. I can’t wait to get back into the garden on Monday. There at least I know what to expect and do. I guess that is my little comfort zone.

I saw this cute little Agave growing in a pot at Wave Hill. It only gets to 12 inches and is hardy to USDA Zone 7b. There used to be one in the conservatory at work but the person that takes care of the greenhouse watered it to death over the winter. I love the contrast of the green leaves and white stripes. This plant only flowers after many years and then dies.

Here are a couple more shots from the Foreigner Concert on their 2007 Concert tour.

Mick Jones. Like the Dire Straits song says “Oh yeah, the boy can play.” Shot with my cheesy $12 Star Filter.

End shot. Left to right: Jeff Pilson: bass guitar, background vocals, Thom Gimbel: saxophone, guitar, flute, background vocals, Kelly Hansen: lead vocals, Mick Jones: lead guitar, piano, keyboards, background vocals, Jason Bonham: drums, Jeff Jacobs: piano, organ, keyboards, background vocals.

Wide Shot of the whole band. 18mm.

Jeff Pilson, Thom Gimbel. Again with the Star Filter.

I loved the clean look of the stage. No amps or wires, which I don’t think I had seen before. I wanted to reiterate how clean sounding everything was, which for the Ives Center was a major accomplishment. These guys maybe getting a little older but they really gave a high energy performance on a very hot night.

Thanks, Ki. This Agave is very symmetrical.

Hi Chris - A lovely and appropriate tribute to your friend.

Like your garden, your blog continues to grow in beauty and structure! So nice to see a collection of well-thought out floral mcros in one place.

(I have just started practising myself with an old Tamron manual lens; so hope to start getting better soon!)

Well Hi Lois,

Thanks for the comments. Let me know when you update your blog as I would love to see some of the stuff from that old/new Tamron. I have to warn you that macro photography can be addictive.

Sorry about the difficulty in posting comments, Lois. That is happening to someone else that emailed me about and I can't figure it out. I am glad you got through with this one.
