Today’s Flowers

Today’s Flowers
Balboa Park

Yesterday we went to the Botanical Building in Balboa Park. There were a lot of Orchids and other plants blooming. The building itself is amazing and is considered one of the largest lath structures in the world. It wasn’t in full glory since it is still ‘winter’ here, if you could call it that.

This Orchid had a really nice color and one you don’t see too often. There were some really nice Cattelyas also. I really should have brought the 105mm lens since some of the flowers were set back from the walking areas. We visited several other gardens in the park. They were also just coming to life but there were plenty of flowers including the tallest Straw flower I have ever seen. They only get to be maybe 10 to 12 inches tall in Connecticut but the one in the park was over 3.5 feet tall. Maybe it was a different species than the one I am used too.

This is another shot from the park. It is easily in the top 5 parks I have visited.

The park sounds like an ideal place to spend a day this time of year!

Lovely orchids! I am learning something about them, with all the photos people post, and I think it helps me to appreciate orchids more!
Thanks for sharing!

You must have enjoyed the garden walk, seeing flowers along the way. I'd like to do that.
