This brightly colored flower was spotted at the Kula Botanical Garden on Maui. It was quite striking and you could see them from the other side of the garden. I think they were mismarked at the garden and after some research this is the identification I am going with. The flowers were marked Mesembryanthemum speciosa, which I think maybe a botanical synonym or just and old name. No matter what the name the flowers would brighten up any sunny, dry area. There were some pink and yellow flowered ones too but they were just not as dramatic.

We have moved over to the Big Island of Hawaii, finally. After many, many years of wanting to come here I have arrived. We have rented a little house next to the Waipio Valley. It is quite spectacular and the house was very reasonable. My sister and nephew are flying into Hilo today to stay with us.

What a cheery color to brighten up my gray, windy, rainy weather today. Thank you!

Have you moved permanently from CT to Hawaii?? I visited the big island many years ago, and quite fell in love with it.

Hi Christine,

Glad I could brighten up your day. The flower had an amazing color.

Kala,

Hi there. We are just on an extended tour of the islands. The Big Island has been great so far. Soon it will be back to that dreary, bleak area we call home

Mayte, glad you could stop by.
