I have decided to join the blogging craze. I am looking forward to taking a moment to find out a little more about the plants I have been photographing. I hope to explore all aspects of plants, flowers, trees and other garden related topics. Sorry about having to watermark the photos but there are a lot of people using them without permission.

Orchid Rock Rose
Orchid Rock Rose
Cistus x purpureus
(SIS-tus) (pur-PUR-ee-us)
Synonym: Sun Rose
The Orchid Rock Rose is a native of the Mediterranean. It grows on poor soils and doesn’t need a lot of care. The patch that this flower was growing had about 40 flowers and a lot of buds. The flowers only last one day but with the amount of buds it looked like it they would go on blooming for quite a while. This plant is a hybrid between Cistus ladanifer x Cistus creticus and is hardy to 15 degrees F. It can tolerate poor soil, salt spray, wind and only needs a little water after establishment.
