Oriental-Trumpet Lily 'Altari'

Oriental-Trumpet Lily
Lilium 'Altari'
Synonyms: OT Hybrid, Orienpet Lily

This Lily was blooming at the NYBG. It is a result of crossing fragrant Oriental Lilies with large Trumpet type Lilies. It is quite hardy (USDA Zone 4, with mulch) and was standing up without a stake, which is a plus in my book.

This second flower is Spider Flower (Cleome 'Senorita Rosalita'). There are several reasons not to grow Cleome but this cultivar seems to have eliminated some of them. It supposedly has no scent but I did detect a little (not nearly as strong as the species, however), it doesn’t seed, it is spineless, and it is heat and drought resistant. This is my first time growing it so we shall see. It only grows to 24 inches and that is a lot shorter than the regular Cleome. I just planted it yesterday and will be watching it to see how it performs.
