Powder Blue Aster

Powder Blue Aster
Aster

This Aster was blooming at an abandoned real estate office that I turned around in yesterday. It was quite a beautiful little garden with a lot of Black eyed Susans, Knockout Roses and Sedum. Sometimes getting flower pictures is easy and unexpected and this was one of those times. I am not sure which Aster this is but if I were to take a guess it might be ‘Wood’s Light Blue’. I would like to find out as it was growing almost perfectly. Not too tall, no fungus on the foliage and literally covered with blooms.

Hanna blew through here yesterday without much damage but copious amounts of rain. It was barely windy and the ground was so dry that all of it seemed to soak in. The rivers were so low around here that I would be surprised if there was any flooding. We did get almost 6 inches of rain in a few hours. Let the fall planting season begin! Yesterday I went to four nurseries getting prices for the big planting job I have in Greenwich. Sixteen 54-inch Boxwood has been the hardest item to find. Today I want go out and take a few pictures since the weather is clear. There is a slight breeze but I can deal with that.

These are absolutely gorgeous!!! I think they are the same as the ones we had in England, but we called them Michaelmas Daisies, because they bloomed about St. Michael's Day -- I no no longer have a clue as to when that was -- except about now.

I always think asters aren't one of my faves - right up until they start blooming anyway. What a color. We didn't have much wind with Hanna either - cleanup has been pretty easy - and we sure needed the rain too!

ChrisJ hi there. I didn't know that about Michaelmas Daisies. Asters are a varied bunch there are many species.

Hi kris, thanks for visiting my blog. Touring several of our gardens turned up a few areas where water raged through but that was it. Very easy and I loved the rain.

A favorite. Sometimes they seem to be the only light in the woods at all.
